NO, capitalism destroys democracy and empowers a plutocracy. Think of it this way. Capitalism = (capital = money) + (ism = system) = money system. The central feature and source of awesome power for the capitalists is their debt based private global monetary system. Capitalism is a parasite on the back of free enterprise, the two are often and wrongly conflated. What we admire, and the engine of all that success, is free enterprise, not the parasite extracting the wealth from it via interest on their debt. Remove that parasite and the world would transform into a caring world.

One big secret is that because all money is issued as debt, 50% on average of every dollar we spend on goods and services is interest paid to banks. Nations need to reclaim their sovereign right to issue debt-free money, the most vital prerogative of democratic self-governance, and reclaim their resources for the general welfare of their people.

"To allow money creation to become a source of revenue to private issuers is to create, first, a secret and illicit arm of the government and, last, a rival power strong enough ultimately to overthrow all other forms of government." Frederick Soddy
