Patriarchy means you believe in an all powerful male God, hierarchy, one man at the top. That is most likely the only society any of us have ever known. However, societies who worshiped some form of the 'Great Mother' a female deity, were not a matriarchy but were matrifocal and egalitarian. The prosperous and innovative high middle-ages in Europe is an example. They worshipped the Holy Mother often represented by the Black Madonna, a period when all the great Cathedrals were built, the first universities were established, innovative production soared and women's rights flourished. Much of this due to the demurrage currencies the people were allowed, the gold was the noble's money. When the nobles got too deep in debt to the patriarchal financiers and lost control of their monetary systems is when Europe went dark and the squalor the people were forced to live in brought on the plague. History holds the answers which his why Power doesn't want us knowing it. monetaryalliance.org
