There is not much difference between the socialist and capitalist industrial modes of production. The capitalist system is the debt-money system that has been growing world domination since the 1600s which extracts the profits via interest on the debts. There is way more debt than there is money, in the system and that is the problem. Socialists seem to want to socialize everything but the primary social power that determines who rules, the money. Money is the primary force of production, it makes things happen or not happen depending on what those big banks who control its creation want. Trying to make Marx relevant today without a better understanding of capitalism seems a waste if the goal is a peaceful and prosperous world.
