We have a usurious monetary system that concentrates wealth (and thus power) to the top as well, massively exacerbating the inequity. This also has psychological consequences for individuals and society. The origin of those accumulations can most likely be traced back to someone's unethical behavior, cheating people or criminal enterprise.
